A Human-Centered Approach to XR: XR4Human Code of Conduct

The XR4Human Code of Conduct outlines the ethical responsibilities of everyone involved in the creation, deployment, and governance of immersive and extended reality (XR) technologies—including VR, AR, MR, and emerging future systems.

Developed in consultation with academics, developers, and governmental stakeholders, the Code reflects a shared commitment to:

  • Respect for human rights
  • Protection of user privacy
  • Promotion of accessibility and inclusivity
  • Safeguarding the mental, physical, and social well-being of users

It applies to designers, developers, providers, and all XR industry actors across the full lifecycle of immersive technologies.
Its principles offer clear guidance for building XR experiences that are ethical, human-centered, safe, and aligned with fundamental rights standards.

A step forward in ensuring XR evolves responsibly—putting people first.
